Babcock, an American traveler in China, devised rules and terminology for a Western version. The goal, which is similar in principle to rummy, is to accumulate sets. It's a challenging game for four players with the desire to connect to an ancient culture. Our deluxe American version includes dice, chips, 164 non-fading tiles, four racks, and complete instructions. Great set for the money
This is a very good quality set for the money. The tiles are cut/printed clearly, and a nice size to handle. As with all sets that have plastic racks, the racks are slightly bowed, and don't sit well on the table. Just about every set made in China uses these same racks, though. For much more interesting rules, get the Wright-Patterson rules from the Wright-Patterson Officer's Wives Club--at $3 or so per rule book, well worth it!! Much more entertaining than the American MahJongg Society's rule set.
